Transition to a NZOC ecosystem – how to align scope, scale and pace Presented by Leigh Storey, SRO for AIMP and NZOC, UKRI
The ocean and polar regions are changing rapidly due to the climate crisis. A new generation of research infrastructure is required that is capable of exploring the ocean in new ways, is adaptable and is resilient to those changes. Join Leigh Storey to hear about the opportunities for partnership in building a Net Zero Oceanographic Capability (NZOC) and discuss how interoperable sensors, autonomous platforms and ships might achieve that ambition. Circular Economy Production where Rare Earth Materials are Vital Presented by Anthony Bennett, COO at Ecomar Propulsion
Ecomar Propulsion is based in Fareham Hampshire and produces clean electric marine systems for vessel owners wishing to transfer current diesel and petrol propulsion to electric systems using battery and hydrogen power. They recently undertook a research project with Exeter University to ensure that they endorsed and led their Circular Economy aspirations whilst cognizant that rare earth extraction is required for electrical system operations. The presentation will highlight what those issues are and how Responsible Stewardship can help reduce exploitation of labour and how companies can play their part in only dealing with ethical suppliers. |
