NOC Innovation Hub, Southampton

Marine Biodiversity Science Symposium

Wednesday 05 November 2025

9:30 - 14:00

NOC Innovation Hub, Southampton

The National Oceanography Centre are pleased to announce the latest Innovation Hub Science Symposium on the topic of Marine Biodiversity, to be held on the 5th of November from 09:30-14:00. This symposium will bring together Innovation Hub members, marine businesses, biodiversity finance professionals and researchers from the NOC to explore marine biodiversity as a risk and an opportunity for marine businesses.

Our marine community depends on a healthy ocean, and as marine biodiversity declines our businesses face real risks, from reductions in ocean productivity to the loss of natural coastal protection exposing vital coastal infrastructure to damage. Tighter regulations and rising expectations from investors and customers mean that failing to understand and address biodiversity can damage competitiveness and reputation.

As science increasingly reveals the importance of healthy marine biodiversity to our blue planet, it becomes clear that sustainable business models can offer competitive advantage whilst supporting local, national and global conservation efforts. By working alongside scientists, marine businesses can unlock innovation, improve efficiency, and secure a long-term future where commercial success goes hand-in-hand with ocean health.

Opportunities exist to target the science and produce outputs that better align with the needs of business.

Our event will create space for sharing information through presentations, discussions and networking as we exchange knowledge and share the challenges faced by science and business and opportunities for delivering healthier seas for our future.
